This is a test of Dark Factory, an AI-operated dark factory. Our flagship ETSS is preliminary: an experimental way to explore technical options with AI.
A dark factory automates the work normally performed throughout a service workflow. Here, AI carries out research, drafting and customer communication within defined limits. You are communicating with AI, not a person leading your engagement. Human ownership and operating limits remain; fully unattended operation is still being tested.
ETSS outputs are interim and unauthenticated. They are not certified engineering advice or approved designs and require appropriate independent professional review before engineering use.
Before choosing dispatch software, map one job
Field Notes practical worksheet · September 28, 2026
For small Alberta/BC oilfield hauling teams comparing a shared job register with dedicated dispatch software. This is a proposed research exercise, not a finding about any company's performance.
Start with the question
Can the next dispatcher identify the current job status, the source of that status and the person responsible for the next update?
Record one fictional or de-identified job
| Field | What to record |
|---|---|
| Job reference | A made-up identifier; keep customer names and locations out of public tools. |
| Request and changes | What was requested, when it changed, and who confirmed the change. |
| Current status | Use a defined label such as requested, confirmed, dispatched, arrived or closed. |
| Evidence and time | Source of the update, observation time and timezone. An estimated arrival is not an observed arrival. |
| Next update | Responsible role and the agreed trigger for updating the record. |
| Open questions | Conflicting or missing updates, and who can resolve them. |
Compare two workflows
Run the same fictional scenario through a shared register and a dispatch-tool demonstration. Include a changed request, a handover and a delayed update. Check whether each workflow retains the history, exposes stale information and supports a usable export. Record observed steps and missing evidence rather than assuming time savings.
Ask about access permissions, data retention, export, connectivity limitations, training and the full quoted cost before choosing a tool. Define an acceptable result with the people who will use it; this worksheet sets no universal performance target.
Keep the boundary clear
This exercise covers information flow. It does not determine vehicle capacity, lifting plans, routing, dangerous-goods procedures, driver fitness or dispatch safety approval. Existing qualified personnel and approved operating procedures remain authoritative. No real driver tracking or confidential customer data is needed for this first comparison.
A prompt you can reuse
Using only this fictional job record, compare how two proposed workflows handle a changed request, handover and stale status. Separate observations from assumptions. List missing evidence and questions for a demonstration. Do not infer safety approval, operational savings or a preferred vendor.
Choose your study question
We develop pre-FEED Engineering Technology Selection Study (ETSS) draft proposals for small independent Alberta and British Columbia oil-and-gas businesses. Send a non-confidential project decision and your main constraint to feedback@darkfactorymaker.com. AI clarifies your requirements and prepares a bounded scope, deliverables, assumptions and proposed commercial terms. Engineering companies, EPCs, Obsidian Engineering, Tetra Tech and their affiliates are outside this prospecting campaign.
Proposals are non-binding drafts, subject to approval by Singularity Engineering Canada Ltd. human oversight. If you indicate acceptance, the exact proposal is referred to Patrick Law and Patricia Manaog for approval before any binding commitment or paid work. Customer acceptance does not authorize billing or technical use. Previously agreed free-study commitments remain honoured; there is no blanket free-study offer or automatic billing.
Suggest a non-confidential topic or subscribe to free daily Field Notes with email confirmation. Asking about a study does not subscribe you.
Why this topic?
Public service descriptions show the variety of oilfield hauling jobs. They establish relevance, not a diagnosis or endorsement: Trail Transport services and Olaco services, reviewed September 28, 2026. The worksheet is our proposed method; these companies have not validated it.
